Serious burn requiring hospitalization –
Greater than 15% burns in an adult
– Greater than 10% burns in a child
– Any burn in the very young, the elderly or the infirm
– Any full thickness burn
– Burns of special regions: face, hands, feet, perineum
– Circumferential burns
– Inhalation injury
-Associated trauma or significant pre-burn illness: e.g. diabetes Continued next page
Two branches –
It is reconstruction of diseased or lost part of the body chiefly by transfer of tissue from other part of the body.
Common recontructive surgery:
A) Skin coverage of burn wound by split thickness skin graft
and some cases by flap
B) Correction of post burn contracture using:-
i. Skin graft and
ii. Different type of flap.
C) Treatment of scar, kelloid & hypertrophy after burn.
D) Repair of cleft lip & cleft palate
